What To Eat Before Singing

Well, I’m heading back into Len Milne’s Bedside studio an hour from now, to start recording 4 songs for my pending album, and just finished devouring a quarter pounder and cheese, side salad and water (NOT a tea drinker)!

Got me to think, “What should you eat and drink before you sing?” I fear the answer may be, “Whatever you do Don’t eat McDee’s!” 🙂

Love to hear what other folks do.

Music Recording Production Fund

So on February 3rd, 2011 I handed in my application for Level 1 funding at Manitoba Film & Music. (If you are a Manitoba artist and haven not checked out the various funding programs… you should! WARNING- It is a pretty intense application process!)

So what does this mean?

Well, if the two songs that I submitted along with a detailed application, marketing plan & two pounds of flesh are approved by a jury of music professionals, then I will receive funding assistance (up to 75%) to go back into the studio to record a few more songs. I’m going to make my 1st album happen, one way or another, but MFM will be a good resource to have on my side going forward regardless of their immediate decision. I am definitely itching to get back into Len Milne’s Bedside Studio…

Either way, wish me luck as jury decisions are made in about 2-3 weeks!!!

Also, have a few more updates coming soon! So stay tuned…

One and The Same Update & RadioStar

Sorry it has been so long since I have sent an update on the fate of ‘One & The Same’ & everything else musical.

I am very happy to say that ‘One & The Same‘ made the top 55 in in Canada out over 700 songs for the David Suzuki Playlist for the Planet Contest. Unfortunately, it wasn’t selected to make the final top 11 in Canada. I am so pleased it did as well as it did… and couldn’t have done so with out the help of all my friends voting every day on CBC Radio 3.  Thanks again!!!

This qoute sums up my feelings:

“The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark.” ~Michael Angelo

On to my update for today. This afternoon I attended the Canadian RadioStar Songwriting Workshop held at the Park theater in Winnipeg. Not only did I receive a live panel critique of ‘One & The Same’, but as well took away some amazing songwriting tips from Dan Hill. For those of you who don’t know Dan is one of Canada’s true songwriting geniuses, who has penned songs for the likes of Celine Dion, 98 Degrees, Brittney Spears & 100’s more. The advice I received WILL make me a better songwriter and I can’t wait to show YOU some of the stuff I am working on. I also was able to meet Renee, of Keith & Renee, the artist(s) whose song ‘The One‘ ended up being one of the Playlist for the Planet Winners. Congrats again Renee and it was great meeting you.

Lastly, I have selected my next two songs to go into the studio with; The River Runs & Three Guitars. These are two very different songs that will reveal two completely different sides of my writing! I will be trying to get into the studio over the next several months and so look forward to updating you soon.

Thanks a million for your support and make sure to post your thoughts as a comment and or send me an email to stay in touch.

Cheers,
Lee

Studio Work Almost Done

The last musicians are scheduled in for this Monday evening (violin & female vocals). It is going to be utterly wicked hearing ‘One & The Same’ as a completed song including bass, drums, guitar, violin, female vocal harmony & gang vocals!

I have been taking a few pictures in Studio, so will be posting them soon along with crediting all the amazing musicians who have contributed to this project.

We should be mixing & editing by mid-week and sent off for mastering by later this week. If all goes according to plan, I’ll have the song uploaded to the CBC website, competing in ‘Playlist for the Planet!’ well before the deadline.

Next step, getting everyone ready to vote the song up starting August 15th!!!

In Studio This Wednesday

Well, it’s official.

I am booked in with Len Milne (BedSide Recording Studio) to start recording ‘One & The Same‘ for David Suzuki’s Playlist for the Planet. To say I am excited is an understatement!!!

Since the deadline for uploading songs to  Suzuki’s contest is August 15th we are going to have to work fast to pull all the musicians together necessary. This song will hopefully have female vocal harmonies, tambourine, bongos, piano, group vocals & possibly violin. Trying to get this puppy finished by the third week in July to allow at least three weeks to promote on & offline.

Whatever you are doing this Wednesday evening… please send any good Karma available my way 🙂
